Hi there, I haven’t posted here before, but did a write-up of a solo RPG session: Down and Out in Lankhmar (Savage Worlds). It’s the Session 1 file in the folder. There are also character sheets and a couple of photos of my dungeon crawler minigame in there, too. Thanks!

This year there are many ideas for #SGAM2018 and I really like this!

Then I would suggest another one:

The More & Less Challenge:

Play two solo adventures, the first using more tools (rules, pdfs, dice, cards, randomizers, sourcebooks etc.) than you’ve ever used, in the second adventure use less tools than you’ve ever used.

What do you think?

I had a #SGAM2018 idea. There are game programming competitions like Ludum Dare, where people are challenged to create a video game in 24 hours. I wouldn’t propose something quite that extreme, but what about a challenge to create a solo RPG within a week — or two? And the following week(s) could be open to playing / AP of the game(s). Too difficult? We don’t need more solo games? Just an idea that popped into my head today. 🙂

Has anyone posted an AP of a “Powered by the Apocalypse” game? I mean, besides Ironsworn. I keep seeing them mentioned as great games, but I don’t think I’ve been able to wrap my head around the few I’ve skimmed. Maybe I’m just too used to “simulationist” games to intuitively understand “narrativist” ones.

So, I’d love to see one in action, if anyone has written one up.

Edited: So, I did find Sophia Brandt’s playthrough, as well as the one by Ray Otus. But I still don’t think I understand how these games work.

A look back at #SGAM2017 … it was quite an eventful month! Maybe we could implement/update the Zach Bestiary again this year? The website is hosted on GitHub and if anyone can write markdown and push to GitHub, they can contribute. As always, open to ideas and suggestions for the site. Maybe we can find someone willing to donate art for a new background image?

Community projects for SGAM… I really really liked working on the Zach Bestiary last year. I think it would be great to have another group project. ZB focused on NPCs, we could run with that idea and have one that focuses on actual beasts, locations, vehicles, or story seeds. You get the idea. Basically a compilation of ideas from the group that might help players when they get stuck.

Disclaimer, I don’t ‘own’ SGAM in any way, shape, or form. I’m just excited about the event and I want to share that with others and spark some conversation.

Theme suggestion #3 for SGAM: Grab an RPG from the dawn of gaming (70s and 80s) and drag it kicking and screaming into the new millennium. Use your favorite solo tools to bring it to life (and probably streamline the play as well since they tend to be crunchy beasties.)

As always, these are suggestions. Feel free to use, lose, or abuse as desired. 🙂

Perhaps we’ll have a poll or something in October to determine what the ‘official’ 2018 theme will be.
