Found out about these too late for the kickstarter. Looks like they were released last month. I’d like to try at least the Path of Horror. Anyone try them? Any thoughts? Any must-have sets, or ones that mix well together?
Anybody have these? Been curious about them for awhile. Not sure how useful they would be for solo per se, since they do seem to integrate other PC’s, but seem like they’d be easy enough to adapt for NPC’s a well.
Returning from the bandit’s camp, the company is glad to be all in one piece. Arden’s men-at-arms took quite a beating, but none were killed. Four bandits can’t say the say. In fact, they can’t say anything at all as they are trussed up on several horses…
I come seeking recommendations: games that provide substantial support for a lone character amid wilderness, with or without deeply non-human sentients – no other people around, for a big, flexible sense of “people”. There’s Perilous Wilds and Perilous Deeps for Dungeon World, which have a party in mind can be retooled. There’s the ruins-exploring supplement for Stars Without Numbers, and that’s got the same solo system as Scarlet Heroes in its 2nd edition. There’s Ghost Planets for Fate Core, but that would take more substantial retooling to work with a single character (or at least it feels that way to me).
I have been able to do another session of Shadow and Ink just before my wife returned (and made some snarky remarks about me playing).
Scenario Two was a bit more open as to whom to pick, although the scientist didn’t feel right for this one. Since there are not that many characters to choose from and there are five scenarios, I went with the journalist, although I didn’t really feel that comfortable with that character as described in the campaign.
And my apprehension was correct, for it was a close call indeed, I barely got that one story point that allowed me to advance.
A word of warning, I failed penmanship regularly (the weak attribute of the journalist), so the writing is rather careless.
I finally got around to get something finished I can share. And I also got to give Quill a try.
I have to admit that I have had quite some problems getting to terms with the premise/mechanisms of Quill, but why not give it a try anyway.
To make things easier for me, I picked Shadow and Ink. Starting the campaign, I first read the scenario and then picked the character as not every character fits every scenario well (for instance, the journalist does not really fit in well with the background story of scenario one in my opinion). So, I finally picked the historian.
During the session, I actually first picked the word from the ink pot, then decided whether I wanted to have flourish with it and then did the three checks in a row. Doing the penmanship check before actually writing the paragraph allowed me to decide whether to be careful or not with my writing for that paragraph.
I feel that the paragraphs turned out a bit short, but with the restraints put on the vocabulary, I didn’t know how to elaborate there freely.
As you can see, thanks to some good early paragraphs, I scored 9 points, enough to get 2 story points.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, in order to preserve the look of the letter, I put the technical details on the left-hand page and reserved the right-hand page for the actual letter, as you can see.
