Only a few hours left on the fantasy trip kickstarter. perfect system for solo adventuring, including a couple of solo adventures in the box! Your chance to own and play a game that helped define roleplaying games back in the day. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sjgames/the-fantasy-trip-old-school-roleplaying
Usually when I have a solo rpg experience that isn’t satisfying it has to do with the source material I’ve chosen. Sometimes I just can’t get it to work solo… not the fault of the material but not everything is as equally adaptable for solo play.
Hot Springs Island, which I heard about someone else online, is a fantastic system-neutral supplement. The books (a “field guide” for players and the GM’s “dark guide”) detail an island and its lush and decaying flora and fauna. There are cities, volcanoes, flooded ruins, wandering NPCs, and more jellyfish and giant crabs than you could ever want.
My thief Riff came to the island in search of his former accomplice. Now part of a royal family (he married and talked his way in) he is running out of funds and needs to pull off another big score to maintain his new lifestyle.
Lots of randomizers, flavor text that provides 3d6-rolled choices for past histories make this material very easy to use for the soloist.
For this story, I created my characters using Dungeon World, which worked quite well.
A note for those of you who care: some of the art is “explicit” so don’t buy this if that bothers you
Riff’s adventures on the isle are detailed here:
Ironsworn pirates: naval combat…

I have gone back to the chronicles of Travjane the witch in my Das schwarze Auge (The Dark Eye) campaign. After her disastrous expedition to the ancient ruins, she retreats back to the city, where she has some unfinished business…

Linos post about Engles Matrix Games made me think about running a DCC funnel. You start with 10-15 dudes, not generally combat trained.
I wondered if I broke them into units, three fives or five threes, if I can resolve combat like a wargame.
I don’t want to have to narrate each character.
thanks to the previous discussion on Engle’s Matrix Games, here are some of my thoughts about this game.
Forgive my english as always 😉

So for this year’s Remembrance Day, I was considering playing ISIS Crisis, though I’m not sure if that’s a good idea due to various stuff like rubbing people the wrong way with playing this game. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this?

Based on viewers requests, including the request of the designer, I have posted a video presenting the adventures of Ambrosia, the Woods Girl.
This video shows how action can occur in a solo RPG with no equipment, no combat, and no NPCs. Spoiler alert: it ends on a cliffhanger.
I heartily recommend Ironsworn to the solo RPGer. The content is narrative-based and expansive; easy to learn and flexible. (I don’t know the designer at all nor am I associated with this product in any way.)
