Google Plus is going away.

The diaspora of this group have settled on three main places for now:

Reddit (431 members and growing):

https://goo.gl/rbcS2L

The Reddit group has produced some deeper discussions so far and it’s fairly active.

Discord chat server (80+ members and growing):

https://discord.gg/jwYknJY

This discord chat was created by Chris Stieha. We’ve added some useful bots for dice rolls/inspiration/etc. There is good activity. Very friendly place.

MeWe (299 members so far):

https://goo.gl/aaJ2pY

The MeWe group has virtually zero structure. If you like a cross between Facebook and G+, this might be your place.

You are welcome to join all three if you want and see which one you like best over time. I mostly hang out at Reddit and Discord, but am still active in MeWe and here (while the ship still floats).

See you on the other side wherever you go!

[Open Design] Tarot Game Rules 0.1

[Open Design] Tarot Game Rules 0.1

I generally dislike interpretation. It generally takes me out of immersion so I try to avoid or minimize it as much as possible. That means I’m potentially missing out on one of the usual techniques for playing solo, though, so I’m taking on the challenge of trying to solve that problem for myself.

These are rules I playtested recently. There isn’t much to them, IMO, but their aim is to try and make interpretation fun for me.

I feel like I’m in a bit of a holding pattern. I want to do some Solo gaming, but I also am waiting on #SGAM2018 to get going. I think I can wait another few days.

Oh, and you did vote, didn’t you?

Sorry to cross-post, but we’re looking for solo players to join us in a “progressive play” of Ironsworn RPG for #SGAM2018! Please join us if you’re looking for something fun to do during the month of November.

It’s a progressive play, meaning each solo player plays a “chapter” of the overarching story, and hands it off to the next player. A play period for each player offers a four-day (real-time) window to post your AP notes. You don’t have to detail the story if you don’t want to, but AP notes are necessary for the handoff to the next player.

Join in the fun of a progressive solo play of Ironsworn during the month of November for #SGAM2018!

I’ve put a bunch of resources up on the Google Group created to track this Ironsworn game, and we’re pretty much ready for November 1, just finishing some of the guidelines for play. If you’d like to hang out with us, jump in early to claim your spot during the event! You can join by clicking the following link, and then clicking the ‘Contact Owner…’ link (see pic attached). In your response email, simply type the name of the designer of Ironsworn {coughShawncoughTomkincough}, and I’ll know it’s not spam (and that you have read the rules, so you likely know how to play, or are at least willing to learn on-the-fly)! I’ll then send you an invite which will allow you to enter the group properly.

Thanks, everyone!

I just backed this Kickstarter, Minute RPG. It’s intended to be a standalone RPG system for quick session. What really got my interest was that it included cards for Scene, Focus, Complication, and Threat, among other things. It might make a nice addition to my solo gaming toolbox. More robust than Story Cubes, but less busy than GameMaster’s Apprentice.

After a bit of a break from solo gaming, I’ve taken up with Song of Blades and Heroes again. One of the new maps from the Neutral Party patreon (https://www.patreon.com/neutralparty/posts) caught my eye, and I knew I needed to put my Goblins and Imperial warbands on it. I’ve gone back to Google Drawings for my VTT, since Roll20 has suddenly become quite laggy on both my laptop and desktop.

In the screenshot I’m at a bit of a pause as I try to figure out how to salvage things on the behalf of the imperials (red). The scenario has the Goblins (green) trying to steal a holy relic (pink rectangle) from a crumbling holy site.

The highlight has been watching the imperial centurions try to hold off the Ogre Brute (big green club at the ruined gate) from getting into the court yard. They held their own for a few turns, but just before the screenshot one of them fine fell to the heavy bludgeoner.

As a side note, Google Drawings makes it easy to have consistent scaling by using inches for the dimensions of objects. That allowed me to make measuring sticks like I’d use on an actual table for this game.
