So I have added the creation of my first scenario and the record of my first scene. An outpost on the brelish border has become home to a small community of Cyran refugees who have fled the horrors of the mournland. Unfortunately the last war has left deep prejudices, and when somebody is killed they are the first to be blamed. Luckily they have a champion to defend them…

I have finally gotten round to creating a blog for some of my actual plays. Just some notes on setting creation and character sheets so far for my solo foray into eberron using Aperita Arcana. More to follow soon…

I want to learn this RPG system before I try to run a game but it’s hard to test my understanding without playing.

So the solution I think is to play solo but how to test familiarity with procedure?

Do I know how to have a range combat behind cover? Perform a con check against poison? Attack inanimate objects? Have a psionic fight? Endure maddening revelation?

Make a party of minimal characters. Only what needs to be there. A fighter needs ST 14 give him that. Don’t worry about IQ unless he faces a test.

I’m thinking of a systemless dungeon that is like an obstacle course.

A piniata full of scorpions hangs. When each player has attacked with their melee weapons, Dodge flying scorpions. One of them must save versus poison (but not die)

Track damage but not HP. Have a pool of water. Make them swim and almost drown. Have people throw tennis balls at each other.

What else?

First play of Four Against Darkness!

First play of Four Against Darkness!

Roland the Paladin (Cleric)

Guido the Assassin (Swashbuckler)

Ashishishe the Scout (Rogue)

Ivar the Berserker (Barbarian)

I was trying a new starting were all characters have no gear, and roll 1d30 for starting gold.  They all rolled 13-18. So they walked into the dungeon a bit light.

First room was a trap and a jewel worth 160 gold!  Killed a few Vermin, then left the dungeon to buy gear.

Second trip in was more Vermin and 1 group of Minions. Back out to heal.

Third trip was two bosses back to back!  Ivar used his Rage against the Ogre. After the Ogre, I used some healing spells and bandages.  I rolled a 6 on the XP roll, so I exploded the dice (cheating a bit) for a second XP roll! Roland and Guido leveled up to Lv2, Ivar and Ashishishe are still Lv1.  The next room was a Small Dragon! I missed a lot of hits, and the dragon hit me almost every time…

Total:

Killed 6x groups of Vermin.

Killed 1x group of Minions, Orcs.

Killed 1x Boss, Ogre.

Party was defeated by a Small Dragon!
