Ok,People, today I found this little solo game designed by Ben Wray. It is a mix of “Pokemon Go” with “Daily Quest” by lino Pang…everytime you complete a real life task/chores/work, you can build a tiny monster. Simple, but funny!
Having finished Larry Niven’s “The Draco Tavern”, I’m thinking of starting a solo series based more in a fantasy setting but with a similar idea: the PC would be either the manager or proprietor of a tavern/inn in a “hub” city, and the stories would result from things overheard while adventurers dine in the tavern. I’m not sure if the PC would actually go out on adventures; likely not, as I’m leaning more toward having the PC “manage” adventures for NPC groups.
I’m trying to decide on a system to start with. This feels like a PbtA or Fate Accelerated type of game on the “crunchy” end, but as I don’t have much experience with those (Fate, some, but not AW/DW), I’m open to suggestions. I had thought my next game would be Ironsworn, but this doesn’t feel like a good match for that system (my idea seems more story driven, less confrontational, than what Ironsword was created for).
Thoughts? My only other experience which might match this nicely would be Mouse Guard… {shrug} Too many options in my hands, and too many ideas knocking around in my head! 😀
i suspect that this may be of use to some of you in creating your solo RPG stories…
Fwiw, kris m has several kickstarters under his belt and does quality work.

Squareware has now launched on Kickstarter. I’m seeking funding to prototype and mass manufacture a very special dice kit I have developed that combines the best features of a Box, Bag, Mats and Dice to give you millions of instant creative solutions during or while building your RPG – and – help the DM eliminate creative, mental and physical fatigue; minimize the need for manuals; free up space behind the DM screen; allow you to craft entire quest concepts in seconds; and make it easy on your shoulders, bag or pocket to carry. #dice #rpg #dnd #tabletop #gaming
I wrote up some more Funhouse RPG stuff on some postcards to my niece and nephew. Another surrealist + work romp and the tiny adventures of a terrier in a tiny car, just trying to get a bone to chew.
More Funhouse RPG in a surrealist universe. In this case every time I try to leave work it’s a different day – but which one?!?! At least I can’t repeat Mondays for whatever reason.
A revised and extended edition of Ironsworn has just been published by Shawn Tomkin. This FREE game is very professionally produced and presented. Moreover it has been play-tested by several people in both cooperative and solo mode.

– Four new NPC’s, including the horrifying Chimera and the indomitable Iron Revenant.
– New oracles and tweaks to existing oracles.
– Extensive revisions to all character assets, plus 9 new assets.
– Extensive fixes, corrections and tweaks.
– An index (a bit of a work-in-progress)
There are undoubtedly still some issues (hopefully small ones). I have a feedback form available here: https://goo.gl/3xB925. If you find an error, please let me know!
Hi all, I’m looking for random tables on finding and reaching objectives. I made one, but I thought maybe I could share it and see if anyone can help improve it or has better ideas. Here it is:
1. When you pick up a random quest, you are given a magical compass, dog, a guiding light, or whatever to find the objective in a quest (for example, finding a treasure or a missing person.) First, roll the difficulty table below for how many points to accumulate in a dungeon to explore rooms before reaching the destination.
Objective Difficulty:
1-3. 10 Points
4-5. 15 Points
6. 20 Points
2. Following from the above difficulty, roll the table below to accumulate points as you enter each room in a dungeon. (Note: Going back in old areas do not yield anything from the list, meaning they are already explored. But you can go back and find new paths to continue the search.)
1. Nothing (0 pts)
2-3. Lost the trail (-1 pts)
4. Faintly on the right track (1 pts)
5-6. On the right track! (2 pts)
3. When you have reached the objective, resolve the situation in your own way (such as defeating a boss, picking up the treasure or rescuing a hostage.) That’s it.
You could alternatively make tables using different dices with more results, but this is the most simple one I’ve come up with so far.
PWYW. Designed for 2 players, but looks soloable….

Good news from beyond the grave! My spoopy 2-player 1-shot storytelling game, Dead Friend: A Game of Necromancy, is now available as pay-what-you-want on DriveThruRPG. You each play the role of a friend, one living and one dead. The script follows the dramatic structure of a necromancy ritual, and you use Tarot cards (or regular cards) to randomize story prompts. Enjoy!
